Pattaya, just like any other tourist resort around the world, has its share of confidence tricksters, snake oil salesmen and scam artists. Wherever there’s a tourist dollar to be spent, there are unscrupulous individuals ready, willing and entirely able to relieve you of it. Most are relatively harmless – maybe a taxi driver will charge you a few baht more than he usually would because he can see you’re a tourist – but some can seriously ruin your day or worse.
As this guide to Pattaya Beach will show, there is a lot more to this 4 km crescent of coastline than just sand and sea. In fact, the beach is not even the star attraction, even if it is home to a huge number of speedboats, parasails and jet skis, as well as diving boats and floating restaurants. Pattaya Beach Road, which is just a line of palm trees away from the shore, is the place to be.
Pattaya nightlife is world-famous. You cannot even name the city without immediately thinking of Walking Street and the bright glare of its overlapping neon signs for clubs, discos, bars, go-gos, massage parlours and other forms of nocturnal entertainment. This mile of madness in South Pattaya is an assault on the senses and is, without a doubt, the racing heart of the nightlife on the entire eastern seaboard of Thailand.
